Long-distance triathlon glossary·Taper

Taper : the pre-race sharpening

Load

The progressive volume cut over the 1 to 3 weeks before a long race.

Taper sheds the fatigue stacked during build blocks while preserving fitness. Classic rule: 3 weeks of taper for an Ironman, about 10 days for a 70.3. Volume drops sharply but short intensity stays in to preserve neuromuscular adaptation.

In TriPaced:

TriPaced computes the minimum taper duration for your A race (21 days Ironman, 10 days 70.3) and warns if the available window is too short. It keeps one activation session per discipline during taper so you don't "lose your legs".
