Long-distance triathlon glossary·DNF

DNF / DNS / DQ : Did Not Finish / Did Not Start / Disqualified

Intensity

The three non-podium race outcomes: abandoning mid-race (DNF), not starting (DNS), or being disqualified (DQ).

A DNF (Did Not Finish) happens when you decide to stop mid-race: injury, illness, accumulated penalties, or judging that continuing would be unsafe. DNS (Did Not Start) applies when you are registered but don't toe the start line, often due to injury or illness. DQ (Disqualification) results from a rule violation: illegal drafting, outside assistance, unserved penalties. A DNF in long-distance racing is not shameful : it is sometimes the smartest call.

In TriPaced:

In TriPaced, you can log races with a DNF, DNS, or DQ status. These events are excluded from your PR calculations but remain in your history to track root causes (injury, overtraining, poor nutrition prep).
