Long-distance triathlon glossary·70.3

70.3 : Half-Ironman, middle-distance triathlon

Intensity

Middle-distance triathlon: 1.9 km swim + 90 km bike + 21.1 km run.

The 70.3 takes its name from the total distance in miles (about 113 km). Typical finish times range from 3:45 for elites to 7-8 h for back-of-packers. Unlike Ironman, riding close to threshold is possible on the bike, and the half-marathon is run near the limit. Efficient transitions and a smart swim start are key to conserving energy from the gun.

In TriPaced:

In TriPaced, a 70.3 goal activates a middle-distance periodization: high-intensity bike blocks, regular brick sessions, and speed-focused swim volume. Your target race auto-detects the distance to calibrate weekly volume targets.
