Carbo-loading : Glycogen loading

Intensity

Nutritional strategy to maximize glycogen stores in the days before a race.

Carbo-loading means raising carbohydrate intake (pasta, rice, bread) to 60-70% of total calories for 2-3 days before race day, while cutting training volume. Goal: top off muscle and liver glycogen stores. A well-loaded muscle can supply energy for 90-120 minutes of hard effort before glycogen runs out.
